"Everything is arising for my benefit"
This is one of the truth that I teach in my self mastery trainings and it's a very important thing for healing and personal growth.
This idea that everything is arising from my benefit means that no matter what is going on, even if it seems crappy and terrible on the surface, actually has some benefit to you.
Now, whenever I teach people this idea, I hear people say things like,
"What? I have terrible headaches"
"I have these gastrointestinal symptoms"
"These things are going wrong in my family or my relationship. How is it possible for this to be of my benefit?"
The truth is that everything that arises in our life, whether it's our habits or our physical body, is helping us in some way. So it's very important to be able to drill down into your mind body system.
It's not going to be logical how having this arrangement either helps you to do something or helps you to avoid doing something.
I'll give you an example. Let's imagine that you have terrible headaches. Well maybe you'll also really hate going to social engagements that you don't want to go to. So perhaps there is some benefit when you have terrible headaches. It actually gives you the benefit of the excuse to not have to go to these crappy social engagements that you don't want to because you have these headaches.
Now, I'm not saying that you're making up the headache so you don't have to go or that you're a terrible person or that your headaches aren't really happening and if you just could get over it. I'm not saying those things. What I am saying is it's an important part of the healing process for you to uncover and make conscious within yourself all of the benefits that you get from whatever negative thing you have going on.
I challenge you in this moment to make a list of the benefits. You could make two columns. I get to do these things because I have this whatever going on or I get an excuse to not have to do these things.
Simply by doing this exercise, you gain a powerful insight into how to gently start to unwind any attachment. It doesn't mean that you have to go to the crappy social engagement or you have to do these other things, but simply knowing it and understanding it can then take it to the next level where we apply energetic techniques to really loosen it from your system.
So you can be free either way. And that process actually starts to unwind the physical symptoms or the behavioral patterns themselves. This is a big truth for the healing spiritual growth path. Everything is arising for my benefit.
